Columbia

Columbia The state capital was exactly as we expected it: lots of old federal buildings, a big downtown area, and tons of cool restaurants. The state capital grounds that hold the state house of representatives and senate was an impressive look into the state’s history. The building is a beautiful monument and museum where the SC state government is seated. I, personally, have an interest in architecture, so the pure scale of the interior blew me away; of course I’ve never been to Washington, DC. Walking through the state capital building grounds gave way to a bustling downtown.

The visitors center is located in the convention center where we met Jill Asouzu, the visitors centers attendant. She was full of information about stuff to do, what we should see and where we should eat. She would have been a cool tour guide if she didn’t have to stay at the visitor’s center. The All About Beer Magazine Beer Fest took place right next to the visitors center in the convention center. We were technically there as press but couldn’t help tasting the beer. There were more beers and breweries than I could try in 3 beer fests. And a good thing, too, because they promised us that we would leave with at least 3 new favorite beers. We met a brewer that looked like Santa Clause, a couple that couldn’t wait to get back to their room, an All About Beer Magazine editor who really did know all about beer, 2 girls that stepped out of “Alice in Wonderland” … kinda… Grady even got a Flying Saucer girl’s phone number … play on, playa.

As you may know, part of our job is too set up our tent and car and offer chances to win money in exchange for a completed survey. In search for some younger blood, we stopped by the USC campus to see if we could set up sometime in the future, look for it in the event calendar section. The campus is really pretty and adds to the downtown setting by giving the area a college town feel. Five points is where a lot of students hang out, so we went to see for ourselves. We found a pizza place that ended up full. But it is a college hot spot so there was another one around the corner. All in all we can’t wait to go back. Come find us next time we are around and let us know what else we should do.
